Entrepeneurs

We watch videos, write and speak about entrepeneurs who are role models. Each student chooses an entrepeneur as a role model searching online and summarizes the main ideas to tell their classmates persuading them she/he is the best role model. This is what Irene Espinedo, a student from 3ºESO wrote.

I decided to watch Bel Pesce’s video because the title was engaging. It was called ‘5 ways to kill your dreams’. This is the link:

The woman who was giving the speech was called Bel Pesce and she is a brazilian entrepreneur and the founder of FazInova, a school of undertaking and skills.

In the video, Bel Pesce (entrepreneur) talks about how to not achieve your dreams, how to ruin, destroy, wreck them. She gives five teach to learn how to not reach your dreams. The tips are the followings:

  1. BELIEVE IN OVERNIGHT SUCCESS: with this she means that if you think that your dreams will be done in few time, you are wrong, nothing is achieved in one day. Always when the people thinks something achieved by someone is an overnight success, I am sure is just because she or he has been working for years and years, has studied and dedicated so much effort and had a lot of attitude to achieve it. In conclusion, any success will be achieve in an overnight, and if you think that, you will be ruining your own dreams.
  2. BELIEVE SOMEONE ELSE HAS THIS ANSWERS FOR YOU: it is about picking your own decisions because nobody has the perfect ones for your life. You will always have to choose the ones you think are right, not the ones your family or friends think are right.
  3. DECIDE TO SETTLE WHEN GROWTH IS GUARANTEED: she tries to explain that you have to continue growing always, achieving new goals and devoloping them.
  4. BELIEVE THE FAULT IS SOMEONE ELSE’S: she tries to show that the only responsible for the dreams is the person who want to complete them. And if you start blaming other persons, you will never develop.
  5. BELIEVE THAT THE ONLY THINGS THAT MATTER ARE THE DREAMS THEMSELVES: She teaches that life is not just about the goals themselves, she encourage people to fully enjoy all the journey to your goal, all the steps you do have to be celebrated and something to learn.

We listened to Steve Job and talked about his advices.

We also listened to other entrepeneurs and talked about their ideas

We read about these thought-provoking advices and wrote our opinions.

Being free and honest

First we watch a video and then write an opinion essay on how to make a better world or design an infographic with your ideas about honesty and being free.

Africa Vincelle Nieto has created this magnificent infographic to show her ideas on what honesty consists on.

Power of freedom?
If you just take a second to think about everything that surrounds us, including every object, every action, every feeling… What are we really living for? We all search for a way to happiness, a way society says you own by working hard and giving all your life through, but do we really enjoy it? That’s what happiness consists of? We all think we have the freedom to choose the way we want to find it, but it isn’t true, we are all conditioned by a supposed society which makes us follow an strict procedure to be easily maintained and controlled. But if we do really discover the true values of life and earth, things would be much different. And “society” is not interested in that.
We all see videos similar to this one many times, and right after seeing them we think “oh, I’m gonna change!” But is that really true? Let me ask you: No. We are too much immersed in a society of laziness and conformism, working for each one and “enjoying” the little moments left, the ones we stand out a bit of the routine, thinking they are just fun moments, when actually they are the true happiness.
Happiness is not a long-term cause; it’s not a long term work. Happiness is not a destination we arrived at the end of our life, it’s not a prize. Happiness is found in every aspect of our daily life, and most important of all, it’s found in our way of seeing things: it’s found in positivity. There’s not any bigger power than our motivation and believe in ourselves, but we haven’t realised it yet. Freedom is important, but it’s just a door we cannot open if we don’t have the courage to do it.
Once you start growing, there’s one moment when you start realizing growing wasn’t as cool as you may have thought. Problems arrive. Difficult tasks have to be done. Decisions. Maturity. All of these seemed incredible short time ago, but they are not now you face them. Not because we want to be childish, of course we want to be mature and conscious about everything, respectful and intelligent, but at that time we couldn’t see the dark side of all of them, the real happiness found in innocence, ignorance was supposed to stay with us for the rest of our lives, but now it isn’t. Now we have to search for it by ourselves. And that’s much difficult than it was then, when it seemed to be deep inside us.
We just need to be conscious, become conscious and stop lying to ourselves. Look for the real life and the true value of things. Look for everything around us and start to take care of it, ignoring what other people say. Believe in yourself an others will follow. That’s the real step to change the world: Stand up.

Marcos García wrote this Opinion Essay

After seeing “The Lie we live”, a video trying to show us the reality of our world, I felt a weird mixture of emotions.

On the one hand I agree with the spokesman, and his arguments are indeed facts: the powerful control the world while the rest of the people work as their personal slaves, unknowing the value or motive or their acts, like going to work everyday or buying certain brands, motivated by the media and other organizations they control.
He also shows the disastrous wars we create between us, being enable to emphasize with those too far away. With this same mentality, we kill other species, considering them inferior and less intelligent, showing off the real nature of the human specie: a deeply rooted narcissism that leads us to selfishness and greed.

image

On the other hand I’ve also noticed that the idea of the video may sound really revolutionary and inspiring, it does not really give a solution to the problem, it just gives a series of facts that we all know, without really saying how to fight against the governments and enterprises that oppress us.
He’s also being quite hypocritical as while he’s attacking these companies, his original video is monetized and he foments to share it through the media, controlled by enterprises he hates so much (Youtube, property of Google or other social network) that gain money every time someone watches the video. Which is the moral of this story? That while he says we should end up with our capitalist system and creates a more equal world, this video is giving him at the same time a great amount of money, as Youtube networks usually pay quite well monetized videos as the author is giving them the right to put ads in this video. You heard it right; he gave these enterprises the right to publish their ads in his video, encouraging people to buy these products and at the same time, making him a little bit richer…

image

In my opinion the main idea of the video is not bad, but as I said, is just a bunch of facts most of us know: it does not say how to battle against the social inequalities or how to take down the system the “Elite” impose on us. It’s also quite disappointing that while he’s trying to “attack” these corporations, he’s the first one giving them more power and more significance through his videos.
Show solutions, not problems we’ve all noticed.

THE LIE WE LIVE by Laura Menéndez

Is it true we are able to decide what we want to do in life? Technology, science and investigation have improved enormously during the last decades, and that, of course, has lots of advantages. But have we ever really thought about the disadvantages? Internet has joined lots of people, and has given us the opportunity to know people from other countries, or keep in touch with those friends and relatives who live abroad. Social networks have also become a great way of spreading information and ideas, even though some may be harmful. But social networks tend to set people apart, as some people, especially teenagers, base their lives in what they do in social networks. Everything you publish in the internet gives everyone else the opportunity to know more and more about you, and people aren’t aware of the danger that making public your private life ibrings about.

Even though the internet is a problem in nowadays society it’s far to be the only one. All the technological and scientific advantages that have taken place in the last decades turned the human being into the most destructive species in the planet. Before, we used to work the land and take only those resources we needed, but nowadays globalization and social advantages have made cities bigger, and those cities need supplies from the outside. Those supplies are satisfied with products produced in massive factories, where sanity measures are quite often insufficient. Cows, pigs, crops and other basic nutrients for the human diet are treated with chemicals which are harmful for our health and for the environment.

If we know our needs are destroying the planet why don’t we do something to change that? Most people are unaware of what they eating, and just buy in the supermarkets the cheapest food product, sometimes in order to buy some other things such as expensive clothes or a brand new phone to show everyone else. We live in a society where we live from what others think of us; we are too conditioned by society and stereotypes as to live the life we would really like to. And not only have that, businessmen who run important and world-wide influential companies controll our minds. How? Through our money. They decide the price of everything and how we have to think, they decide whether we will buy this or that phone, and we shouldn’t allow them to do that. We are conditioning ourselves to live a life in which they give us everything done, and make us think we are doing it. We think we need things we don’t need, and take for granted things we shouldn’t.

Humanity should be conscious of what we are doing, and of how we do it, not just do ir because we are told to. It should be people who control governments and not them who control people. We should know what we are doing, and why. And we have to fight to know that, they are not going to give it to us.

On Education

We have reflected on how to improve education with several activities:

1 We watched some videos on education.

2 We have expressed our opinions

Aitana Jiménez

3 We have interviewed each other on the best ideas to learn using ipads

( videos to be uploaded) poroject still in progress

4 We have written about education problems.

Why all students in Spain must have
the same rights to go to university?

Persuading the government to stop 3+2’s law

All students must have rights to go to the university. Now, the
government tries to make university private, because they only want rich
people to go. e have to achieve to stop this law that doesn’t go
anywhere.
Students are worried because they think that their titles are going to be
insignificant. People are saying that with this law they teach students
competitiveness instead of tolerance and cooperation.
Some students have serious problems to pay such amount of money. A
97.6% of the participants of the enquiry vote against this law.
Instead of being armed-crossed, we could change this. You may ask – and
how? Well, very easily.
First we should make a research of all the information about this law. We
could make a meeting to show the government we are against them. If we
work in team, what could go wrong?
Sign up in our organization! If we don’t try it, how would we know what would have happened?

WHAT SHOULD YOU STUDY?

If we look up the word studying in the dictionary, we can find the following definitions:

1) Application of the mind to the acquisition of knowledge, as by reading, investigation, or reflection.

2) The cultivation of a particular branch of learning, science or art.

Sin título

3) Often, studies. A personal       effort to gain     knowledge; These definitions may show us the meaning behind said word, but not what it means to us in our daily lives since the day we are born. It’s known by every single one of us that studying, either if this implies having a university degree or simply being graduated on primary and secondary schools, is something of mayor importance for our lives in nowadays society but… On what should we base the choices that determine what we study?

Sin título 2

Some people strongly believe that we should base our studies, our degrees, our own knowledge; in pure economic motives. In other words, there are people who think that what we study must be determined by the amount of income we will achieve by applying said studies to our future jobs. Now, of course what we are paid to do our job is something we should take into account, as money is the one thing that completely runs, or we better say rules, our society nowadays but… Is it the only thing we should take into account? Are we only going to study those careers that allow us to gain us a lot of money, such as law or medicine? Is money going to be the one thing that completely rules us too?

Sin título 3

On the other side, there are people who strongly believe that we should base our studies on whatever branch of knowledge we feel strongly about, whatever branch of knowledge that makes us feel inspired or fulfilled; either that, or that we choose a branch of knowledge related with something we are unquestionably good at. In other words, there are people who believe that we should choose what career we study based on what’s good for us as a person, no matter if said career is related with science, arts, social studies or other main branches of knowledge.

Sin título 4

After this arguments the inescapable question is: Do you prefer spending your days working for getting paid, or would you rather get paid for spending your days doing what you love and completes you as a person? Undoubtedly, the choice of what determines your studies, your knowledge and your future is yours to be made but, make sure you choose wisely because this is a once in a lifetime shoot.

You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
